Conservatory Painting in Haywards Heath

White country cottage exterior with freshly painted UPVC by Haywards Heath Decorators

Haywards Heath Decorators paint and respray conservatories across Haywards Heath and Mid Sussex.

What we cover:

  • UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour change from white to grey, black, or any RAL shade
  • Aluminium conservatory frames — primer system matched to the alloy profile
  • Timber conservatory frames — preparation, priming, and exterior paint for period lean-tos
  • Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork — completing the full exterior refresh
  • Combined conservatory and window frame projects

Detached and semi-detached properties throughout Haywards Heath, Lindfield, Cuckfield, and Burgess Hill very commonly have rear conservatories added in the 1990s and 2000s. Most of them are white UPVC that is now well past its best.

Conservatory Painting Services

We spray conservatory frameworks to a factory-like finish at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

UPVC Conservatory Frameworks

White UPVC conservatories installed in the 1990s and early 2000s are now ageing — the profiles yellow and chalk over time, and the colour looks dated against contemporary window and door choices. Replacing a conservatory runs to £5,000–£20,000 or more. Respraying the framework costs a fraction of that and produces a finish visually indistinguishable from new.

The process starts with cleaning and degreasing all UPVC profiles, then light abrading for adhesion. We mask all glazing panels carefully before applying a UPVC adhesion primer followed by two finish coats by spray. The spray application produces the smooth, factory-like finish that brush application cannot replicate on plastic profiles.

Aluminium Conservatory Frames

Older aluminium conservatories predate the UPVC boom and are common on properties built in the 1970s and 1980s. The alloy profiles oxidise and fade, making colour matching to updated window frames or a new front door difficult. Properties on the older residential streets around Haywards Heath central — Lucastes Avenue, Hazelgrove Road — often have original aluminium conservatories.

Aluminium requires a different primer system from UPVC. A self-etching primer bonds to the metal surface before the finish coat. We assess the frame condition and any existing paint or powder coating before quoting.

Timber Conservatory Frames

Victorian and Edwardian lean-to conservatories on period properties in Lindfield and Cuckfield are often timber-framed. These structures have real character but require more preparation work than UPVC or aluminium. Timber conservatory frames are treated like exterior woodwork — paint is stripped or sanded back where failing, bare wood is primed with an appropriate exterior primer, and finish coats applied in a flexible exterior paint.

Period properties in Lindfield’s conservation area and on the older roads around Cuckfield village benefit from a conservative colour palette — Heritage White, off-white, and soft greens sit naturally alongside stone and painted render.

Dwarf Walls and Surrounding Brickwork

Many conservatories sit on a dwarf wall — a short section of brickwork or blockwork between the floor and the window line. Where the rest of the exterior is being refreshed, painting the dwarf wall as part of the conservatory project completes the look.

We can paint rendered dwarf walls on Bolnore Village properties or brick dwarf walls on older Lindfield period properties to match the conservatory framework colour or coordinate with the main house. For a full exterior refresh including dwarf walls, see our exterior painting service.

Colour Options: Transforming an Old Conservatory

The most popular colour change on UPVC conservatories is white to grey — particularly anthracite grey (RAL 7016) and slate grey (RAL 7015). Sage green and olive are growing in popularity on properties with garden settings. Black (RAL 9005) is popular on contemporary and modernised properties.

Any RAL or BS colour can be matched. If you want to coordinate with new windows or a replacement front door, bring us the RAL reference. The effect of a colour-changed conservatory alongside updated windows is a complete exterior transformation without structural changes. See our window frame painting service for combined projects.

Here’s How It Works

1. Site Visit and Quote

We measure the conservatory, assess the frame material and condition, and advise on colour options. You receive a fixed price before any work begins.

2. Surface Preparation

All profiles are cleaned and degreased. UPVC is lightly abraded for adhesion. Any failing paint on timber or aluminium is stripped back.

3. Masking

Glazing panels, sills, the dwarf wall, and surrounding paving are masked thoroughly before spraying begins. This is the most time-consuming preparation step.

4. Primer

UPVC adhesion primer, self-etching metal primer, or exterior wood primer applied as appropriate to the frame material.

5. Finish Coats

Two spray coats applied for UPVC and aluminium. Brush and roller for timber frames. The best season for conservatory respraying runs from April through September.

6. Inspection and Handover

We check all profiles, corners, and junctions before masking is removed. Touch-ups are completed before we leave.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Haywards Heath

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01444 719922 for a precise quote.

Typical Price Ranges

Typical range: £350 to £1,100 depending on conservatory size and material.

Small lean-to (UPVC frame, single span): £350–£550. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory: £450–£750. Large Victorian-style UPVC or orangery-style extension: £700–£1,100. Aluminium conservatory (additional masking and primer): add £100–£200.

What Affects the Cost

Conservatory size and frame material are the primary cost drivers. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatories on Haywards Heath, Lindfield, or Burgess Hill 1990s additions to semi-detached homes typically cost £450–£750.

Dwarf walls, window frames, and fascias can be coordinated alongside the conservatory for efficiency — we quote all elements together during the site visit.
